Creative Patchwork and Quilting (this replaces the current City & Guilds 7716-62 Level 3 Certificate in Patchwork and Quilting course which is being discontinued)

WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE FOR GROUP BOOKINGS

 

Life's a bleach: discharging colour from cloth

Using Discharge paste and household bleach to create lovely rich coppery colours on black and dyed fabrics. Can be quite messy and smelly. 

 

 

Shrivel Up and Dye: stitch and shrink to create a highly textured surface

Using ice-wool artic fleece and artic wool gauze and lots of different natural fabrics such as silks, cottons, linens and lace, we stitch, shrink an then dye the piece which can then be further embellished with machine or hand stitching. Free machining. I or 2 day course. 

 

 

Crazy about Colour: introduction to dyeing

Using procion dyes. Dyeing the colour wheel, graduated dyeing, space dyeing. Painting with dye and Ice-dyeing.  I day or 2 day course available.

 

 

Paper Mania: using newspaper in textiles

Using painted newspapers to make bookwraps. bookcovers or small pieces of work to frame.  1 day course.  Machine stitching. 

 

 

Texture Adventures: creating a textured surface in textiles

Using felt, fabric, sheers, lutradur and other materials to stitch and burn to create a variety of textures. Machine stitching and hand embellishment. 1 day or 2 day course available. 

 

 

Out of the blue - indigo dyeing

Create lots of lovely blue dyed cloth using shibori resist methods and synthetic indigo dyes. Dyes and other equipment provided at a cost of £6

 

Screenprinting

 

Create your own unique pieces of cloth using a variety of screenprinting methods. Dye pastes, screens and other equipment provided at a cost of £6

 

Layered Landscapes

Create an A4 piece ready to be framed. 

 

Fabric Bowls

 

Create your own fabric bowl with this quick and easy method. Suitable for beginners

 

Fabric Postcards

 

 A fun and easy workshop to make fabric postcards from scraps. 

 

GROUP WORKSHOPS

 

I am available to book for groups of up to 16.  £150 per day. 

 

 

TALKS

 

I am available to book for talks to your patchwork and quilting or embroidery group. £100

 

  •  'Warning! City & Guilds may change your life' A talk showing the development of my work through the journey of City & Guilds. The talk is illustrated by lots of examples of design books and stitched work.
 
  • 'Text, Texture and Textiles"  a talk sharing my love creating a textured surface using fabrics and some experimental materials. The talk is illustrated by lots of examples of textured stitched pieces 
 
  • "Trash to treasure" a talk about how I use recycled newspaper, sweet wrappers and found objects to create textile pieces. The talk is illustrated with lots of examples or stitched textiles
